Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. [7][8] Born and raised in the outskirts of Barcelona her music has been described as being an "atypical pop artist" because of her genre-bending music styles. [9] After being enthralled by Spanish folk music as a child of 13she enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while performing in bars and weddings.She completed her studies with honors by virtue of her collaborative cover album with Raul Refree, Los Angeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). The album combines flamenco with hip-hop and pop music, the album spawned "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso in tu Mira (single). Both songs have been hugely successful and garnered a lot of critical praise. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia onto the world stage of music. [12][13] Rosalia has explored the urbano genre with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", becoming a global hit. With her third studio album Motomami (2022), she gave reggaeton an innovative style, straying slightly from the flamenco style of her first album. The album gained international attention due to its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and was the best reviewed album of the year on Metacritic. Throughout her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten number-one singles in her home country, which is the highest number for a local artist. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year awards), four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been conferred to Rosalia. Rosalia also won two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the music scene of today with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18The award was presented to her in 18. She was also the first singing Spanish artist to win a nomination at the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She was born into an ethnically diverse family and is the youngest child of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that is specialized in metalworking. Jose Manuel Vila, her father was born in Cudillero. They separated in 2019. She has a younger sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts as a young person and was particularly interested when she came across the discography by Camaron de La Isla. Her musical education began at the Taller de Musics [es]. [24] She did a six-year course at the academy. She was a student at the Raval School and was later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was a solo singer, singing at weddings and bars that were musical.
